Picture crazy

By kate on April 7th, 2004

My boss happened to ask me the other day what my MSN or AOL messenger ID was. Bad idea. I had an MSN one, but never signed in at work before. I downloaded and installed the most recent version, which allows you to have a “Display Picture” that is shown as you chat with someone. It can be changed as you go.

I went a little crazy with the pictures and now I have a whole folder full of interesting thumbnails. And I feel like chatting now that I’m all setup! If you know me and are on MSN Messenger, let me know and we can add each other to our lists.

Now I want to get a paid LiveJournal account so I can have more than just three measly pictures. Is it bad to want to spend $35/year ($25 for the account, plus $10 for extra pics) for such a frivolous thing?

You get LOTS of user pictures just by getting a paid account…50, I think. So unless 50 isn’t enough, then it’s just $25. And speaking as one who has given in to the frivolity of it all, I think it’s worth it. It’s not so much PAYING for an account as it is supporting something I use all the freakin’ time. So goes MY rationale, at least. 🙂

P.S. I’m not on MSN at work (can’t install programs on my computer as I lack admin privileges) but I’m on AIM (sometimes).

Instead of thinking of it as frivolous (though it can easily b arguerd that it is), I chose to think of it as supporting an entity that I think is doing something fairly useful for the greater community at large. I know when I have been unemployed and broke that I have appreciated having a social and fairly innocuous distraction at my disposal. I figure if I can pay right now, I’m subsidizing others who can’t. I felt much better about handing my money over that way.

Shoot, I spend that much on mochas in about two weeks & no-one else benefits.

Hi Kate. I just came across your journal through a friend of a friend and thought I’d stop and say hello. So, er, Hello.

    Celine (not Dion)

Holy shit! Are you the Celine I used to know? From your picture, it looks like it is.

What’s up? Great to hear from you. Send me an email and let me know what you’ve been up to.

(If you’re a different Celine, my apologies and thanks for saying hi.)

  5. motomotoyama Says:

No, this is the Celine you used to know. I’ll send you an email shortly, but I’m actually supposed to be getting ready for a soccer game. I just wanted to let you know that I’m still around.

No worries – you can email me when you have time.

I play soccer on Thursdays myself! (8:30 game today.)

You’re not on the same team as are you? If so, my team plays your team next week. 🙂

Um, yeah, that’s my team. How bizarre and coincidental. I guess we get to see each other next Thursday!
