Final Thoughts on Vietnam

Here are some more photos that I took in Vietnam. First, some from the town of Hue, which is known for its many historical monuments:

Me in a cyclo early one morning

Me eating pho that same morning

An incense seller near a pagoda

A mausoleum for one of Vietnam's emperors

The majority of Vietnamese are Buddhist, and I enjoyed taking pictures in their colourful pagodas:

A monk, praying (in Hue)

A shrine to Quang Duc, the monk who set himself on fire in 1963 to protest Vietnam's treatment of Buddhists (this is his car, as shown in the magazine photo)

At the Kitchen Pagoda

The turtle is also sacred

All in all, Vietnam was a success. We feel like we spent just enough time here - not too fast, not too slow. We saw everything we wanted to see, and really enjoyed most of it. Being more seasoned travellers now, the constant barrage of people trying to sell us stuff has faded into the background and doesn't frustrate us anymore. There were several real highlights to Vietnam: particularly the beautiful landscape and the friendly, smiling people. I would definitely recommend it as a good destination.
