For Thanksgiving, we hung out with my family, including our nephew Asher, who is an incredibly delightful child. I love watching his self-possession as he carefully explores objects and people, and it reminded me of something I’d forgotten.<\/p>\n

For a while, I’ve been thinking of this alien thing called “baby” that we’re expecting… a weird lifeform that will eat, sleep, and excrete and force us to conform to its schedule. What Asher reminded me is that Zippy is going to be a human being<\/em>. Someone with a discernable personality that we’ll get to spend a lifetime getting to know better.
