Loss of depth

By kate on November 21st, 2005

My bellybutton is kind of freaking me out. Until now, my bellybutton has been unusually deep, and sensitive to the touch. It hurts to clean, and I rarely, if ever, really get to the bottom. If a finger is stuck far in, I feel like my innermost organs are being probed (and it’s uncomfortable).
Now, my […]

No news is good news

By kate on November 18th, 2005

We had our monthly midwife appointment yesterday, and there wasn’t any real news to speak of. Everything is normal, healthy, and as expected. Of the most interest is that we decided upon March 12th as our new due date.
Otherwise, the pregnancy is progressing. Zippy has become quite a kicker, and I can feel her kicking […]

Frivolousness

By kate on November 8th, 2005

We bought the first frivolous Zippy-related thing the other day. Safeway was having a post-Halloween sale on costumes (50% off), so we picked up fuzzy bee and ladybug costumes for future dress-up fun. This is even though they probably won’t fit Zippy for at least a year or two.

Status report

By kate on November 4th, 2005

I haven’t written much lately because there’s not much new to report (except the brand-new kicking I just wrote about below). I’m making my way through an uneventful second trimester where there are no major difficulties, but many minor inconveniences.

I’m getting to the stage where pillows become more vital to getting a good night’s sleep. […]

Maybe we should call her Pele…

By kate on November 4th, 2005

Zippy has made an exciting change in how she moves. All of a sudden, this week she is actually KICKING rather than slowly turning over. The first time I felt it, I thought maybe I was having a muscle twitch until I put my hand there and felt something kick back out at me. For […]

Ultrasound #2

By steve on October 28th, 2005

[this entry by Steve]

Kate and I had our second ultrasound appointment a few days ago. Most people only do one appointment; we did two because Zippy was a week smaller than we expected at our previous ultrasound. We wanted to confirm the original measurements and make sure that Zippy wasn’t growing unusually slowly. […]

It seems we may have stumbled upon a photography theme for this pregnancy:

Baby? What baby?

By kate on October 24th, 2005

I’ve been so busy lately, with work and aerial-related business planning, that I haven’t even had time to give much thought to Zippy. Periods of time go by where I completely forget that I’m pregnant. This is despite the fact that she seems to have gone on another little growth spurt and feels like she’s […]

Movement

By kate on October 20th, 2005

I’ve been meaning to write for a while about feeling Zippy move. It was and is totally different than I had heard or was expecting.

They call it “quickening”, the term for the moment that you feel the first movement. But for me, it wasn’t one moment. It was a few weeks of not being sure […]

Third Grade Flashback

By kate on October 18th, 2005

I need computer glasses!
Since the pregnancy started, I’ve noticed I’m very susceptible to eye strain. By the end of the day or week, my eyes are tired and focusing is very difficult. I finally went to an eye doctor today, who hadn’t seen very many cases of pregnancy-related eye strain. She did find a mild […]

Instant Cool

By steve on October 14th, 2005

[this entry by Steve]

One of the new-baby ideas that Kate and I are excited about is to make all kinds of custom onesies.

Our plan is to buy a big pack of plain white onesies and a bunch of inkjet-compatible iron-on printer paper, and then go nuts. For example, I’m pretty sure we’ll make one […]

Almost Halfway

By kate on October 14th, 2005

I’ve almost finished my 20th week, meaning I’m about halfway through my pregnancy. This is a great milestone to reach, because it feels substantial.

We had our monthly midwife appointment on Wednesday, and there’s not much to report. All tests so far (ultrasound, blood, urine) have come back normal and healthy. Most of the appointment was […]

Autumn Belly

By steve on October 14th, 2005

I was raking the leaves from our two maple trees late this afternoon, waiting for Kate to come home, when I had a good idea.

Naming the baby

By steve on October 6th, 2005

[this post by Steve]

Now that we know we’ve got a girl, Kate and I are playing the name game with renewed gusto. Like just about every parent, we want our child to have a unique name that’s not too weird. Although “not too weird” is pretty relative, and what we really want is […]

Thoughts on Gender

By kate on October 3rd, 2005

Now that we know we’re having a girl, Steve and I have been giving some more thought to gender. I’ve always said that I want my kids to have all kinds of toys, whether they’re girls or boys. If we were having a boy, I’d give him dolls as well as trucks; frilly dress-up clothes […]
